Dental Emergency in Ryde – We’re Here When You Need Us The Most

A dental emergency in Ryde can happen at any time of the day and when it does it can be frightening and painful. The important thing is to remain calm to prevent tooth loss or further damage.

So what is a dental emergency – should I call?

A dental emergency can be anything from a raging toothache to a knocked out tooth. However, if you or a loved one has suffered an injury to the mouth, then it’s important to get to the dentist within 30 minutes since this can make all the difference to saving or losing your tooth. We prioritise genuine emergencies so please explain what’s happened when you call our dental clinic so we can book you in right away.

A dental emergency in Ryde can include:

• An abscess
• A severe toothache
• Knocked out tooth
• Bitten lip, tongue, or cheek
• Lost filling or crown

If you’re not sure then give our clinic a call on (02) 8776 3232 for advice.

Knocked-out tooth – what to do

If a tooth has been knocked right out of the mouth, then it’s important to follow the instructions below to stand the best chance of saving it.

1. If you can locate the tooth then pick it up gently by the crown, NEVER THE ROOT, and handle it carefully.

2. If the tooth is dirty, wash it gently in water but don’t dry it or wrap it in anything

3. Then try and put the tooth back in its socket. Gently push it in with the fingers, holding it by the crown, or place it above the socket and close the mouth very slowly. Hold the tooth in place with your fingers.

4. It’s important to keep the tooth wet at all times. If you can’t get it back into the socket then put it in your mouth next to your cheek or in a small glass containing milk.

5. Try to see your dentist within 30 minutes and bring the tooth with you to your emergency appointment.

Don’t panic if you can’t get to a dentist within 30 minutes. It’s still possible to save a tooth that’s been out of the mouth for longer than an hour, and our experienced dentists will do everything possible to help avoid tooth loss.
